 Post subject: Multi-Models --- How?

Shame on me!

When I made my first truck modifications (adding working roof lamps) I posted here mentioning how hard such a simple thing was. Someone wrote back about how to take an existing truck and add parts from a scrapyard. I didn't save the info since I didn't intend to do any more truck modeling, and the post is no longer online.

I'm not working with trucks this time, so I'm not posting to the truck forum. But I AM taking multiple existing models and combining them into a single model. Could somebody please take the time to tell this fookie how it's done again (or link me to a tutorial with the info)? I promise I'll keep a copy this time...

(I can insert one model on top of another, but can't figure out how to position it and/or rotate it properly.)

adding another bin to a bin is simply using the insert function of binedit... but you need to do the raising, lowereing, rotating, etc. before inserting...

there are some instructions at my TNT page... go to malibu350.com then click the TNT link and scroll down to the truck section...

OR, you can select all the vertices of the inserted model by pressing TAB repeatedly to move from pixel to pixel, then press V every time a pixel on the new section is highlighted....

Once all the required vertices are selected, you can use MODEL/TRANSLATE to reposition the new section.

As was stated, rotating will have to be done before inserting the new part to the truck.

OR

instead of selecting the vertices one by one, try this:
written as truck instructions for clarity, but can be used on any model.

1. Load the part you want to add

2. go to the VERTIX menu and SELECT ALL VERTICES

3. now go to GROUPS and select STORE VERTIX GROUP

4. save the add-on model, and load the truck model (or main track model)

5. now insert the add-on BIN

6. once loaded go back to the GROUPS menu and pick RESTORE VERTIX GROUP. All the vertices of the new section will be selected, as if you went through and selected them manually as stated above in the first method I mentioned.

Now you can use MODEL/TRANSLATE to reposition the new section, making sure to check TRANSLATE ONLY SELECTED VERTICES first.
