recently i created a new podder and was wondering if n e one would wanna give it a try. evryone who has used it thus far has seemed to like it very much. from the best i can tell there is about 70-80 ppl using it. here's the link to it if ya wanna give it a spin. http://smurfs_quest.tripod.com/The_Smurf's_Podder/ on this page there is a link to download it and also a few advatanges to it. it would be great for n e one to use it and give me a little feed back on it. also on the page there is a link to my email. feel free to drop me a line about n e questions or suggestions.

When run from a temp location, I get:

U should also do what Phin says, podding and mounting is not same thing. We usually use the expression when we want to add a pod file into the game: "I go pod that track" but it's wrong. The correct form is "I go mount that track".


P.S. Yeah Phin i wondered at first. Was confused until i saw that this is a mounting tool.

it takes the same amount of keystrokes to type "any" as it does "n e".

makes me wonder y ppl do it.

Phin kind of covered this but you cannot pod or podder a pod, it's already a pod isn't it? you can merge pods, create new pods, or even unpod pods but if a pod is already a pod why would I want a program to pod a pod again? now a new pod mounting program would be cool. Image

sorry to hear that it isnt functioning properly. the error that you are receiving means that MTM2 more than likely hasnt been properly registered in the regisrty. This Mounting program uses the MTM2 registry keys located at:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Monster Truck Madness\2.0]

that is were it gets the OEM code and the installed path of mtm2. if you have MTM2 installed in more than one place it is possible that the registry could be reading from one place and the shortcuts another you another as for the "Not patched" it checks for the latest version of mtm2 which is 2.0.42.0 you can find this by right clicking on the Monster.exe and clicking the version tab if the version is not 2.0.42.0 then it will prompt you to download. as for calling it 'Pod it' and saying 'n e' i apologize. the best i can offer as of yet it to try reinstalling mtm2 and see if that fixes it this is the first case like this i have seen so i'll have to do a little research in the code and see what i can find. 'Pod it" has been changed to 'Mount Pods'

another way to find the OEM code in mtm2 click on help and About the OEM will be in the upper right corner.

My registry hasn't seen an mtm2 entry for the past three years. I run a lean machine and don't allow registry entries that are unnecessary to the functioning of the OS.

The mtmg motto is "Giving you the tools to raise the standard". You'll tend to find a literate bunch around here. We'll roll with most things but when errors or problems are found, we question whether all the i's are dotted and the t's crossed. Grammatical shortcuts 'can' be a reflection of syntactical inattention. This is not meant to be pedantic or to ridicule you, but rather questioning whether you've covered every base.

Nope. No go on that one. If you look at the mtmg track page, you'll see I just photographed nearly seven hundred tracks. I think it's safe to assume my install works perfectly fine.

The program works fine for me (win98 se)..


the only problem I had was that I first downloaded and tried to run the zipped version but got this error

... but I went back and grabbed the unzipped exe and it ran fine,

I like it, nice job.

I took a peek and i got MTM2 in the registry.

The MTM2 registry entry is a must for this Mounter to work properly. that is why you keep getting the errors. Without the registry key it is setting a null variable and as a result it is reading mtm2 Installed path as "" and the file it is testing for the patch is ""\monster.exe which doesn’t exist.

I can rewrite a version to allow it to work with out the registry keys however it will remove the access from anywhere capabilities. the bare bone minimum in the registry for this Mounter to run is the "Installedpath" and the "ProductID" the rest is not needed.

if you could add just the "Installedpath" and the "ProductID" to the registry then it will allow it to run properly.

sorry about that one when i updated the site i grabbed the wrong wrong file and zipped it. the one i grabbed had 2 functions swapped for an expansion of the mounter i was working on and didnt finish
the zip that is on there now should work just fine thanks for letting me no. =)

did you check to see that the version of monster.exe was 2.0.42.0 you can check it by right clicking on monster.exe selecting properties and clicking the version tab
if no that is why is giving a patch not installed error

Suggestion:

A preference option that allows a user to browse to the mtm2 folder.

Then, on first run, if no registry is found, auto run preferences to locate the folder ... sort of like binedit does, or traxx for the art and models folders. Then save that info to a config file or, gulp, to the registry.

I can't offer more than that until I can see it running.

this should fix it (i think) it tests the registry and if it not there then it prompts you for the location of mtm2. try this and see how it works...

I just noticed the menu bar. The readme is good, but under file there's that word again :-)

Oh, okay, here's a question. If the path is ""\Monster.exe then how come it knows where to find pod.ini to blank it out? Despite the problem, I suspect the blanking out has to do with the use of sub folders (a la PodIt by Phlyin). I showed you my pod.ini file because there are no pods in my mtm2 folder.

P.S. oops, update. I had added things to the registry. I deleted them again and sure enough I was prompted to find the folder, which I did, but still no pod.ini was found and no patch acknowledged.

aaaaaahhhhhhhhh subfolders the one weakness =) i thought that by putting stock/trackname.pod you were telling me the file type lol. it isn't subfolder capabable. i hadnt ever really thought about sub folders =) but that would be a great feature, and i'll start working on it right away and get back with ya as soon as i have something.

i got "Pod" Fixed in the file menu just havent posted it yet. =)

this podder allows for Sub directories to be read as well as create multiple INI files. It will still put the stock pods in order but they MUST be in the same folder. the fixall still gets put in at the top and doesnt have to be in the same folder as the other Pods. note on this one it hasnt had very much testing, infact just me. i been running it through the mill for about 4 hours now and it seems pretty soild, but as in any case it will still need alot of testing. i havent had anyone else get the not Patched error so i'm still working on that one, and as for the pod.ini not being found when it was, there was an array that was causing that one, i remanipultaed the code and took it out so it should be fixed. with all the new stuff there is alot of room for error so if you find any let me no, and i'll try fix them asap. =)

A few notes for you.

It's still not detecting the patch. I get a prompt informing me

Monster Truck Madness 2 is designed to
support 30 mounted pod files without the patch.
You have exceeded that number

When I click OK, the prompt returns in an infinite loop. I have to kill the program using windows task manager.

Good news is that (after removing the extra pods) sub directories are recognized correctly and the new file is saved as it's displayed. Very good.

I really like the sorting of the stock pods and putting them near the top. In my case, they had gotten scrambled when I recreated the pod.ini file. However, I use two other fixes that I keep above the yeastman fixall.pod. The sort you have places them way way down in the list with no way of moving them up. The top three files in my pod.ini usually go like this:

Fixes\MTM2MTM2beta.POD
Fixes\DriverCheckIn.pod
Fixes\Fixall.pod

I don't propose that you automatically code those to goto the top. Winterkill may one day actually update his beta, and my drivercheckin is not widely used. However, for me, I do like to use both and needing to adjust the file order after using smurf pod mounter kinda defeats the purpose of using it. I don't know if this is possible for you, and I've not seen it done in any pod mounting program to date, but being able to move pods up and down the list would be a great feature. When I made the evo smurf program, I included a 'move' feature when it came to assembling animations. Another idea might be to 'mark' files to put at the top. This is something I've just thought of so I have nothing more than the suggestion itself.

Another suggestion might be to place the 'already checked' pods together at the top of the list, and the unchecked pods at the bottom. This would ensure that new checks are added to the bottom instead of scrambling them into the current list. There was a program called Podulator, I think, that would alphabetize all the pods automatically, whether you wanted it to or not. It appeared to be a solid program but took all control away from you. After initial testing, I never used it again.

If you need me to elaborate on anything, please just ask and I'll do what I can. Also, I can pass along my exe file if you think it will help solve the patched problem.

As for asap, please take your time. I'm just glad you're trying to update and fix it. That's a rare quality for many programers. It's greatly appreciated and I look forward to the next update. Thanks
