Looking for feedback on a new pod manager.

Designed to manage up to 640 pods, and can also access a collection of pods across a LAN. No more syncronization troubles!

You need to be familiar with command lines, and please comment on the manual also.

Thanx

Batch file ammended.
Another bug discovered:-

The command line switch for specifying the path to pod files won't tolerate spaces.
I'll fix this tomorrow, but in the meantime if this is causing a problem try this trick.

At a command prompt type the following to assign the path to a spare drive letter.

SUBST X: "c:\your path to pod's parent directory"

Then run PodSteward
PodSteward /U /P:X:\PodSteward

Alternatively, move the PodSteward directory and pods to a location without spaces in the path name.

Could you max out the 640pod limit? I for one use 420 pods but there are people that have double that size (some examples are on team SLO).

If I get time I'll code a GUI and accommodate your request then. For the moment, PodSteward will only be supplied as currently used across our network.

I have no real need for this utility and so I haven't tried using it in the game folder with my pods, but in order to test it I've run it from it's own folder. At a glance I'd say it's a good idea and a clever implementation. The manual is nicely presented, though perhaps not descriptive enough as setup goes. However, with all that said, I still can't get the thing to work. I've dropped pods into the numbered folders but the "update" is doing nothing to update any of the ini files.

ATTENTION: PodSteward has been updated.
PodSteward.zip ready for download with updated content.

Important:
The '/p' switch for specifying the path to your pods has been ditched.

The last argument on the command line now becomes the path, e.g.

PodSteward.exe /U "c:\my path to pods dir"

--------
There were a few problems previously, but I hope this solution will work more reliably.

I have uncovered a couple more new issues.
MTM doesn't like the path specified in pod.ini being too long, but I haven't discovered what the actual limitation is yet.

Also, if you keep the pod directories in the root directory of a drive, directory '0' doesn't appear to be recognised. I haven't yet figued out where the problem lies, but the solution should be obvious!

The number 32 comes to mind for some reason (but could be nothing more a reminder that act, raw, bin, etc file names are limited to 32 characters in a pod). Anyway, yes, mtm likes this:

"C:\Progra~1\Micros~1\Monste~1\"

much better than this:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Monster Truck Madness 2\"
