OK...here I go again (lol, Phineus...)

I use Zmodeler to convert 4x4EVO trucks. I import the SMF model from EVO and export it as a BIN model (needed for MTM2).

EVO trucks come in two model resolutions, a hi-res model and a low-res model. the low-res version has a ZERO at the end of the filename...EXAMPLE;

FORD.smf (hi res)
FORD0.smf (low res)

The low res version is easier to convert, since it is mapped to a 256x256 RAW file already. you just have to convert the RAW file from 24-bit to 8-bit (256 color) to make it MTM2 compatible.

The hi res version is mapped to a 512x512 file, and has to be fully remapped to new textures. (I had to do that with my hi-res ZO TEAM EXPEDITION truck / remapped to 4 newly created 256x256 RAW files. Download it and dissasemble it if you want to see how I did that)

Can you leave only one raw file.

Yes, the low res version uses only one RAW, but the truck's, graphics are blurry because you are trying to cram all of the details into a 256x256 space.

The trucks in 4x4 EVOLUTION are stored as separate parts in the SMF model file, such as mirrors, bars, frames, etc...

you have to convert all the parts one at a time, and store them as BIN files.....I do it like this.....

....if I'm converting the ford f250 .SMF file....the files I save as BINs look something like this...,

f250_body.bin
f250_rollbar.bin
f250_bodyBottom.bin
f250_rightMirror.bin
f250_leftMirror.bin
f250_foglights.bin

After remapping, I combine them into a complete truck using INSERT in BinEdit and save the complete assembly under a new, final name, like "F250_01.bin".

*****************************
I checked the included text file on that truck you asked about, and there is no warning about using it,( the body is from another game) so I will convert it. I will included a text file giving proper credit to the original authors.

I had the same problem. The truck was over 5000 vertixs. I got it down t around 4500, but I guess it's still too many for tracked2 and MTM2 to handle. I had the same problem with similar large models....2000 seems to be the practical limit...

The truck textures in 4x4EVO use transparent black to make the windows appear as glass.

While the truck .BIN is loaded in Binedit, select "faces/select all faces".

Then, select "groups/set group face type"

Set the textures to"0x29 shiny texture MTM2)"

Then save the .BIN. That will take care of the transparent black problem.

I'm not familar with the "(Cannot find control fptr)" problem....anyone know what this error is?

Sure, go ahead and send me the Yamaha, please.

It sounds like you are using the low-resolution texture. Since 4x4EVO only uses these textures when the truck is far away (too far to read text on a truck) they just creat a texture of one side of the truck and map both sides of the model to it.

This is what I do....

Make a duplicate of the texture and save it under a slightly different name, such as....

F250.raw (original texture)
F250_2.raw (duplicated texture)

...using a paint program, load the new texture, flip the words horizontally so that they are reversed (some paint skills req'd), then remap the side of the truck with the backwards text to the new texture.
