Can I use any paint program?

In painting your truck, If I don't have paintshop pro, can I use any paint program? Is there any way to download a paint program or paintshop pro itself? Please let me know. Thanks.

To Phineus, I read your comment on PSP5 and it sounds like a great paint program!! I'd like to try it but didn't find a link to download PSP5. Can you find one for me? Thanks for your time and info.
