 Post subject: Help on making trucks

I dont' have the first clue on placing blowers or engines on my trucks. Can someone help me, and I tried lot's of tutorials for Bin Edit but I can't even make the haystack!!! please please help!!!!
And can you edit the trucks handling and engine physics?

No, you can't edit the engine's physics. But you can change the handling on the trucks, by editing the .trk file in each truck. By either moving the axlebar placement, and the wheelbase, and the body model positions. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

Open up Binedit. Open the model you want to move, and click "Models" at the top of Binedit. A window will pop on the screen, and in that window will be 3 dialog boxes. The top or first box moves the model to the left or right, by entering a number to move it right, or entering a negative number to move it left. Enter in the number 1, that is equal to one foot. The second dialog box, when you enter a positive number it will move the model up. If you enter a negative number "-1" it will move the object down. The 3rd or last box will move the object forward or backwards.

So just open the model or Blower, and then insert the engine model. Then adjust it accordingly, by moving it where you need it. Each time you move it, save it as the blower and overwrite the old one. That way if it's not enough, you don't have to keep guessing on what to enter, and just start where you last moved it. Just move it around till you get it where you want it. Once that is done, save it, and overwrite the original engine model. Then you're done, you have just edited your first model.

I can go into more depth if you wish, but I hope I don't need to. If this doesn't help ya, I will be glad to.

Since you are new at Binedit, here's a simplified step-by-step:

(didn't mean to underwrite u RF...)

STEP #1 - preparing the blower BIN -
1: load the blower (or whatever) into Binedit

2: open the VERTIX menu and click SELECT ALL VERTICES

3: open the GROUPS menu and click SAVE VERTIX GROUP

4: now save the blower model

STEP #2 - Prepare the truck BIN and add blower BIN-
1: go to the FILE menu and open the truck model (the blower will disappear...that's OK)

2: from the FILE menu, select INSERT, and point it at your blower model in what ever directory it is in (it's RAW and ACT texture files must be in the ART folder in the MTM2 folder)

3: The blower model should appear with the truck model, but most likely it won't be where you want it to be.

STEP #3 - reposition the newly added part (blower)-
1: Open the groups menu again and select RESTORE VERTIX GROUP (this wil select all the vertices on the blower)

2: Now open the MODEL menu, select TRANSLATE, check the TRANSLATE ONLY SELECTED VERTICES box, and check whether you want to move the item in FEET or Binedit UNITS (256 units = one foot)

3: in the X,Y and Z windows, enter the amount you wish to move the part, and hit OK....the Blower will move the amount you entered.

Z = move forward this amount...a minus sign before the number (negative number) means move the item backwards (example: 1.4404 moves forward, and -1.4404 moves backwards)

X = Left and right - a negative number moves left, positive to the right

y = up and down...negatives numbers reposition downward

REPEAT the above process until you are satisfied with the postion of the new part, then save the whole thing as one truck model.....make sure you select a new BIN name when you save it.

ROTATION

The ROTATE tool is found in the MODEL menu. Enter the amount of rotation in degrees, with or without a minus sign

360 degrees = 1 full rotation (skateboarders know!)

enter degrees to rotate....negative degrees will give opposite rotation:
Y-axis .....to swing the nose left or right
X-axis .....to tilt forward or backward
Z-axis.....to lean left or right

Note that the inserted item (blower in this case) cannot be rotated after insertion on the truck....you just end up rotating the whole truck.

If the blower or add-on needs to be rotated or tilted on an axis, return to step one and reload the blower BIN by itself, rotate it using the Rotate tool in the MODEL menu (first 3 items on the menu are rotate tools), THEN insert the add-on bin to the truck and position it where you want it......it may take a few attempts to rotate the proper amount.

NOTE that the part will rotate around the 0,0,0 axis points in Binedit, and not at the part's actual centerpoint.

If the part is several feet in front of the zero-axis point, then rotating it backwards on the X-axis will cause the part to elevate..see my picture below....

you can make the axis lines visible in Binedit for reference ....just select SHOW AXES in the VIEW menu (axes?) the point in space where they all cross is 0,0,0

TIP:
Save a copy of the truck and the add-on part before combining them,...you may want to go back and try something different if you aren't happy with the results.

OR

Just make sure the new model with the additional part added is saved under a new BIN name.....

EXAMPLE:
if the truck is BIGFOOT.BIN, and the add-on is called BLOWER3.BIN, when you combine them and save it, call the new model NEWFOOT.BIN, or any other new name you wish to use....

TIP:
Be careful on how many different add-on parts you put on a truck, as you may accumulate many separate texture files, and end up with a huge truck file (I've seen some with 24 different RAWs for the truck model alone, not counting axle and tire textures)...Many pro truck-makers remap their add-on parts to the original truck model's textures, but that technique can come later....

Thanx man, that really helped. Maybe you'll end up downloadin one of my trucks that I upload if I ever upload one, and you'll know you helped with part of it haha!!

I decided to scratch the idea of a Bigfoot truck(with blower)<font size=+2 face=Wingdings>L</font> but I did that with the Executioner truck<font size=+2 face=Wingdings>J</font>. Take a look:
