I don't think this one really needs a description other than, same track but with a new paintjob maybe.

I missed the jump over the bridge on the first lap, it's almost easier going around on the dirt road. Might be worth looking for a shortcut Image The new billboards look 'fine' (btw, I found the treasure chest), and that farmer better hurry or he'll lose his cow, lol. Thanks for raising the bucket on the tractor; that thing was always in the way. But I'll not likely give the computer trucks any sort of a head start. Just call me Speedy, I got a 49. Oh, one last thing. I love the checkpoint markers. Very very nice.

Well, well, well…looks as though Mal has the smorgasbord thing going on here! I had actually planned on reviewing a different track, but when I saw this thread at Track Talk, and then saw “Malibu350” in the author’s column…well hey, I just had to scope it out!

If you don’t make a habit of reading the included text in your downloads, you might want to consider doing so. Often times it contains some very good info about the track, and it sometimes gives you a little insight to the author and what inspired him/her to make the track. This one happens to be a conglomeration of several tracks: MTM 2’s Crazy 98, MTM 1’s Crazy 8s, 4X4 Evolution 2000 and 4X4 Evolution 2 Crazy 2001. Well, I’ve done a few track reviews for Mal, so I’m not going to talk about him anymore – getting tired of it. Hehehe—yeah, super guy, track maker extraordinaire, should run for President, blah blah blah. There – now that you got that part, let’s get busy with this track!

Your first inclination will be to run it like Crazy 98 because the course layout mirrors that track to the “T”. Well, in a way you can run it like C-98, but in a way you can’t. There are a few subtle little adjustments you’ll have to make to traverse this one without slamming into a tree or a checkpoint. Even the shortcut on the bridge is different, so be sure to approach it straight, and not from an angle. Like C-98, the corners have to be taken with surgeon-like precision (probably even more so on this one), and the pace is such that you can’t afford to let up for a second, or bad things can happen. Image You’ll also notice you can come within a fraction of an inch from the tree trunk without hitting an invisible portion of the bin. That’s how it’s supposed to be, but you won’t find that on a lot of tracks, and I’m talking about the newer ones. Older tracks were plagued with bins/models like that, but that was status quo back then, and racers knew to expect it. These days, and correct me if I’m wrong Phin, there’s really no excuse for it. What I DO know, however, is racers hate it, they hate hitting invisible bins that stick out. Exacting stuff from Mal once again – details, details.

The road texture is awesome! When I did the review for Treasure Bay 2, I made a remark about wanting to get out of my truck and lay on the road. The same holds true for this one, I mean where it changes up from blacktop to that other stuff. I’m sure I’d take my socks off too, just to see how it feels on my toes! The narrowness of the track stems from the 4X4 Evo influence. Some may not like that because your passing opportunities are limited. Me, I love it! Tracks like this force you to be patient and think your way thru the race. If you’re behind you want to maintain a close position on the leader in order to capitalize on a mistake or poorly executed cornering. If you’re the leader you want to keep mistakes to an absolute minimum and hold your line, taking special care to guard the inside lane on corners – fun stuff!

If you like close quarters racing with a little bit of banging and bumpin, downloading this one is a no-brainer. It looks great, it’s fast paced, there are no “technical” errors that I saw, and it’s simply a joy to race. After runnin this one the old “Copey Rating” meter was pegged fully to right, which means this one’s a rock-solid “10” out of 10 possible points!! If anyone disagrees with that – tough! I just had that thing calibrated, so I know it’s right on the money.

Mal, great job, bud!! This is truly a nice piece of work, and the only reason I didn’t throw money at the screen after sampling this one is because my wife told me I couldn’t do that anymore. The last time I did it the neighbors were over, and after witnessing my post race celebration, well…they gathered up their kids and left somewhat hastily.. Now I just lay a quarter on the monitor to “secretly” show my appreciation of your tracks. : ) Very much looking forward to the next one, Mal!

That review is better than any that i've ever raced. I'm not saying the review makes the track sound better then ive ever raced. I'm saying the review is better. Heh.
In engligh: Very nice review. I think i'm gonna start searching the board for anything written by SLO_COPE now...
First i'm gonna download that track and do some good ol fashioned racing on it.

Then you have lots to catch up CH. Since Cope's writing reviews on a LOT of tracks and plus they are long reviews but good reviews. So... u need to catch up Image hehehe

My fav line was when he said he's throwing money at his screen. That too was a review about one of Mal's tracks Image

I wrote a response to some complaints of not being able to make the bridge jump/short at KC's. KC's went down at the time and is down again now so I'll just post it here at ol' reliable Karf...

The bridge cut is very doable and was designed that way for two reasons.
first, to make it more challenging/risky, similar to the bridge cut in Badgers Bridge where as if you don't have enough speed or you hit at it the wrong angle you're going to pay.
second, was to better maintain your momentum by getting your rear tires back to the ground sooner, the sooner the tires make contact the sooner you can accelerate shaving seconds off.

the best set up I've found is 1500 with soft suspension and medium tires, with that the only other key is making that turn by the tractor clean enough to maintain at least 82 mph at the top of the ramp, with that your rear tires should touch down a good foot or two beyond the edge. now to get the best possible lap time bump the gears up to 1700, it will take more finesse to hold the line but your over all average speed will increase.

why is this track underwater? i hope there isnt some action i was sposed to do that i missed in a readme somewhere... but this track is entirely underwater for some reason. yet, in the pictures i seen of it, the water level is down to normal. why is this?

thanks for clearing that up. that is the strangest bug on any game i ever did see. maybe it floods it up with water so it doesnt have to deal with the reflections or something i dunno.

I'm having the same problem. I disabled reflections and I'v tried several stock trucks, but everytime I start Crazy 2002.5 it's under water. Should I maybe pod it higher in the list?

Your welcome Scat, and thanks to you and Tyler for reporting the bug so it could be fixed :o)

While I'm here I must say that this is by far my least favorite track I've done. The layout is ok, and the model placement is alright but the abundance of large textures causes a lag problem in complex. gaah.

I think the track is just fine Mal, great job as always.

I hardly ever use complex scenery because of the possibilty of lag. I usually always run sparse scenery. The only time I run complex is when I'm looking at a track for the first time (eg. beta testing) or trying to find your easter eggs. BTW, I'v never found a one of those little buggers yet. [uhoh] They're probably rotten by now anyway. [:x]

i finally got it to work without flooding. i tried it with most of the stock trucks without reflections on and it didnt seem to work. tried it with some customs and it didnt work. but when i tried it with a custom called Savage, it worked perfectly.

i can see why the bridge at the jump is placed high up, so you wont hit it when going off the first jump. maybe it would help to extend the jump that leads to the bridge a little more, higher it a little more, so my front tires dont just hang off the edge when i try to clear it [;)]
