Ideas needed for new monster truck game

1. How about an option to have independently controlled rear steering?

Those of us with a wheel or stick can have the front wheels turn with the controller and the rear wheels turn with the keyboard or automatically. Those of us with a keyboard can have the front wheels turn with the arrow keys and the rear turn with the W/A/S/D keys or automatically.

2. Also another thing, is tread. MTM2 has tread settings but the tires are smooth and mapped to a tread texture. In this game, if you have shallow tread, make the trucks HAVE shallow tread.

3. Lights. Trucks need RII lights and an option for a "second light function," that way RII and lights on the visor, lightbar, lights on a bull bar for night races, ect can be operated independently.

4. More interactive track. Even in flatout, you can spin the wheels and dirt flys but the ground is untouched. It would be cool if the tires make actual grooves in the track.

5. Spotlights. How about an option for a dark stadium where 2 spotlights follow the truck (but not perfectly to make it more realistic, maybe a little delayed)

6. Reactive crowd. I love the idea of that ooh's and aaaah's and I'm working with DaveTheSmasher on an idea for an interactive track like that for MTM2. However what if in addition to that, when you get those reactions also include alot camera flashes.

7. Torque. We all know they have alot of it, so why not make the tires spin and spray dirt, maybe even lift the front tires up if you give it alot of gas, which brings me to 8.

8. Wheelies. In MTM2, you have to jump something, get it unrealisticly to land nose-up, then slam on the brake to get a wheelie goin. Make this one so that you can step on the gas to get the front up, especially the ability to slap wheelie, and suspension that doesn't "just stick" but has some recoil to it (make Newton happy)

9. In-air physics. Just like in real life, make the front end drop down sharply if you hit the brake or let off the gas. So, make it so you have to "bump" the engine in the air just like the real ones.

10. Weight. Make the game calculate a weight for the truck that can change based on how much tread you have on your tires, and the truck itself (a leafer would weigh alot more than a Racesource)

11. Engine. Get the right sounds and performance in there. MTM2's engine doesnt throttle down very good, and RPM'S is dependent on speed. You cant have the truck move at 10 mph while at 8000rpm spinnin the tires. Make speed and rpm independent of each other. I also want to hear that unique, whiny supercharger sound when I throttle down.

12. Ambient noise. I wanna hear those stadium sounds aside from cheering. The cotton candy guy, music being played from the stadium (not louder than anything else and echoed a little), ect.

13. Exhaust. I wanna see something come out of my pipes. Not flames, either. I want smoke, and smoke that looks realistic, not thick smoke that looks like it belongs comin out of a diesel truck. "Light" smoke that is the right color and consistency for a truck depending on the rpm's and all that jazz.

I think that's about it for "Alex's List of Demands" Hope I had some good ideas.

Awesome dude, finally someone is putting forth the effort to make a game with some improvements to previous mt games.

My suggestion to you is, just take some of these ideas and run with them. If you keep taking ideas from people before the game is released you will never be finished.

Personally, I would like to see more people try and lend a hand to the dude. I offer my services in any way, shape, or form to you man. Just send me an email or what not and i will be more than happy to lend you a hand.
What are you looking at !

Thanks guys, more great suggestions! I'm not sure how I would create a tire tread system, but I am quite sure that I could include a weight system based on values of all the parts.

I could include maybe a "realism" option so those people who don't want tires to come off don't have to have it that way, and people who do want them to come off have it their way.

I don't know about the BinEdit thing, but I am aware that it's possible to convert bins to MDLs, using a combination ZModeler >> MED model editor (comes with the programmer I am using, 3D GameStudio). From there I have to scale it to 50 times the usual size, then rotate it so it faces toward the right, etc. etc. etc.

For the first beta, all I plan to add is maybe one or two test trucks and a drag track, just to get the most important part of the game out of the way. From there I can build onto it with all your ideas.

Here's my arena so far.

Thanks.

BTW, feel free to allow your eyes pop out of your sockets as I introduce you to this new picture...

I added a wood roof and changed the non-lighting to four overhead lights that illuminate the whole level.

This all sounds interesting, but let's not get the game and physics engine so complicated that we would have to run out and get the latest, greatest processors just to be able to run the game. A lot of us still have processors that are under 2.0ghz

The ideas being thrown around really sound good though, as long as the game will run on the slower PC's.

Well, I know for a fact that it doesn't run on my old eMachines that I bought in early '01, but it does work on my newer Gateway that I believe I got in... 02? It's 1.8ghz, and since the game runs fine on it, I think it should work for most of you.

If you have a newer video card (like a 128 or a 256) and keep anti-alising turned off, it should run fine.

(at least newer things run smooth as could be for me, and I have an Athlon 850/GeForce FX 5200)

I've got a GeForce 6200 ("GeForce 4") and *some* things work okay even with anti-aliasing turned on, but for the most part I strongly advise against it.

I've got an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ processor and a 32mb ATI Rage128 Pro XP2002 video card.

i hope to god my comp will run this game. i don't care if it takes 4 days to download (i have dial-up), i just want it to work on my e-machine i got in '02? i think it was '02.

oh - and make sure there's a re-start option so if you bust a tire and you don't want to run forever with 3 tires, we can just start the run over.
