|
|
This is nothing new to some but others may not know about it so here it is.
I change the font type and size so the race screen is not so cluttered up, it really helps clear up the veiw in any race cam setting... others may like it just to personalize their own race screen, any font you have in your C:\WINDOWS\Fonts directory will display just fine.
What to do
open up windows explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Monster Truck Madness 2\system, inside the system folder will be the Monster.INI file, open it up with notepad and scroll down to the bottom, to the [fonts] section.
It'll look like this as default;
[Fonts]
gOSFontUseGlobal=0
gOSFontUse_SmallLCD=0
gOSFontUse_Small=0
gOSFontUse_Medium=0
gOSFontUse_Large=0
gOSFontName_SmallLCD=Arial,Arial,Arial
gOSFontName_Small=Arial,Arial,Arial
gOSFontName_Medium=Arial,Arial,Arial Bold
gOSFontName_Large=Arial,Arial,Arial Bold
gOSFontSize_SmallLCD=-9,-9,-16
gOSFontSize_Small=-9,-9,-16
gOSFontSize_Medium=-10,-10,-16
gOSFontSize_Large=-10,-10,-26
gLocalizationFile=UI\MTM2.loc
Note: always make a back up copy of the Monster.INI and put it in a safe place just in case of something unexpected.
To get the second Modern Font display above I made the following changes;
[Fonts]
gOSFontUseGlobal=1
gOSFontUse_SmallLCD=1
gOSFontUse_Small=1
gOSFontUse_Medium=0 <--- did not change the pre race screen
gOSFontUse_Large=1
gOSFontName_SmallLCD=Modern,Modern,Modern
gOSFontName_Small=Modern,Modern,Modern
gOSFontName_Medium=Arial,Arial,Arial Bold <--- did not change the pre race screen
gOSFontName_Large=Modern,Modern,Modern
gOSFontSize_SmallLCD=-9,-9,-10
gOSFontSize_Small=-9,-9,-10
gOSFontSize_Medium=-10,-10,-16 <--- did not change the pre race screen
gOSFontSize_Large=-5,-5,-6
gLocalizationFile=UI\MTM2.loc
That should give you a general idea but there are umpteen different combinations you could try, so have fun with it.
below is just a couple notes
the first line, gOSFontUseGlobal=0 is the master switch
the second, line gOSFontUse_SmallLCD=0 controls the upper left "lap, best, clock, lead, and place," table fonts
the third line, gOSFontUse_Small=0 controls the "gauges, names, and finder" fonts.
the fourth line gOSFontUse_Medium=0 controls the "loading" pre race screen font.
the fifth line gOSFontUse_Large=0 controls the scrolling chat, and cam view font.
lines 6 through 9 sets the font types respectivly
lines 10 through 13 sets the font sizes respectivly, I'm not sure what the first two numbers do but the third will change the font sizes.
the gLocalizationFile=UI\MTM2.loc line has nothing to do with any font type, just the text, for fun you can change the MTM2.loc to MTM2-fun.loc for a funny text dialogue, or MTM2-pig.loc for some pig latin dialogue.

I didn't understand any of it - explain it again. LOL yeah, IAM_Clawfford turned me on to this a while back. I've never tried it, but I think I will now just to see how I like it. Great info, Mal! I'm sure many will make use of it.
Note: Try the System font, too - looks great, and u can still read the scrolling chat

J I have done this it is a nice trick. I too learned from clawford.
"the gLocalizationFile=UI\MTM2.loc line has nothing to do with any font type, just the text, for fun you can change the MTM2.loc to MTM2-fun.loc for a funny text dialogue, or MTM2-pig.loc for some pig latin dialogue."
What dialog is that?
I have stumbled upon those files before and i wondered what they were for.

it's kinda hard to explain... best to just see it for yourself by changing the last line.... J

here's a few more good examples (stolen from the SLO board heheh) that can be simply copied and pasted into the Monster.INI file...

Just a note. MTM2-fun.loc and MTM2-pig.loc contain a couple display glitches but if you open them up in notepad and compare them to MTM2.loc the repairs are easy to make. You can even make a new file MTM2-my.loc (or whatever) and it will work fine if you pod it and mount it higher in the pod.ini list and change the name in the monster.ini

"mount it higher in the pod.ini"
Higher than what?
I dont think it would need to be high because it is not replacing a file if u give it a unique name.
I'll try it out to see if there is any differnece.

Excellent. Turning fat digits into phat digits, I wish I'd known of this years ago. I never liked having the pitboard or dash onscreen because of their bulk. I've also toyed with monster.ini but have always ignored the font stuff, not recognizing the practical benefit of changing it. Thanks!
