well i like the idea of a clutch and slow driving. it will not be a racing game but just a hill-climbing game right? that sounds cool cause me and my dad did that in his dune-buggy a lot till they closed the place which really sucks Image. but i still like 4x4evo . Image will the game run sorta good at least on slower comps? well sounds neat. i'll have to try it.

How accurate is the physics engine? Is it 4x4 evo accurate, NFS 1/2/3 accurate, or TRUE accurate.. with the vehicles roll points, weight transfer, and suspension all done to the bone? Dont get me wrong here, 4x4 Evo's setup is great but it could still use a bit of tweaking to allow more realism and a better experience (whisper that in the vehicle manufacturers ear to get them to allow it hehe). Maybe an exploding firestone tire or two too hehe.

H2O:

The game runs on a p2-300, with voodoo2. The opengl and d3d versions require a bit stronger hardware.

STEvil:
The car physics engine is nearly TRUE accurate. As I said we have progammed a car's drivetrain modell. You will see it soon. Image

JeepFreak are you a member of jeepsunlimited.com

The demo was in Hungarian but it is easy to figure out. You get to drive a Toyota Land Crusier (older style). There is also an 8 minute time limit on the demo.

Red Jeep... thanks for the demo d/l link (downloading right now)... 37 megs seems big for a demo... and the 8 minute thing kinda sucks... but from the previous posts, by Csaba... it seems that this game will be a "system resource hugger", because of the detailed vehicle models. I don't KNOW for sure, I'm just guessing, and basing my guesswork on my limited gaming experience! But.. that 6-wheel army truck looks awesome! Image
I intend to buy the game just to see if all the wheels move! heehee! Image

You can get into a lot of trouble in 8 mins. If you have the truck in 2WD only the rear wheels move, then there is 4WD and you can either lock or unlock the front and rear axles independantly. There are also about 5 engine choices in the demo, for the Land Crusier.

The game does not seem to be that much of a system hog.

The graphics are great, but there is no damage, at least in the demo. I think there will be damage in the full version.

Hi all,

I am glad that you finally found the hungarian demo. I was not able to tell you that we have a demo, because it is up to Virgin to release the english one.

I agree, that the 8 min timelimit sucks, but if you step back to the menu before the counter exceeds that, you can start over again with another 8 mins Image

resources:
Yes the game requires as good hw a you can grab. We have about 900000 polygons in each terrain and with normal viewing distance 7000-10000 onscreen.
A car is usually built up from 2500-3000 polygons.

Bugs:
We've been reported a large amount of them, e.g.
you need winsock 2 installed on your machine (affects only win95 sr1).

No car damage - It is in the game, but our according to our car licenses we had to turn off the visual part of it. Acually you can destroy your car, but you can see it only on the damage meter. (Wait for destruction mode in the full version Image )

Do not use the keyboard to navigate in the menu in OpenGL mode. Crash bug could occur.

That's all for now.

(According to responses on this demo we have added new features into the game).

I think that's all.

thanks,

Csaba

One more thing:

If you can not start the demo It crashes before the menu please drop me a mail with your system's config and all your running background programs to csaba.berenyi@clevers.com

Hi all,

I have found a demo of another offroad racing game: Insane.

You can grab it from:
ftp://ftp.internetto.hu/gamestar/demok/ ... neDemo.exe

It is 29Megs.

Cheers,

Hey Winterkill where can I get those glide drivers for my ATI card?

Thanks for the kind review.

quote:
Originally posted by Winterkill:

Note to the developers: I have an ATI Rage 128 and the game works great with it under OpenGL. I did experience the lock-up using the keyboard on the menus, as . Csaba warned about. I had excellent performance using the default game setup, but got a poor framerate after playing with some of the video options (hard to know what I was doing, I don't know Hungarian ;-). I have a Pentium II (MMX) 450MHz, 128MB RAM, Win98 -- ATI Rage 128 GL SD AGP (32mb) -- SoundCard: TBS Montego.

The setting you have played with is the viewing distance. (it is called Látótávolság)It could dramatically affect the performance. To use maximum distance a Voodoo5, or Geforce2 class viedo card needed. (the game could reach 20000-25000 polygons per frame).
There are other things texture filtering (Textura szûrés) (on certain cards) and the bpp (színmélység) setting of the video mode. (usually 16 bit is faster).

(these are under the -beállítások- button)
Video - graphics options (see text above)
Játék/Hang - Game/sound settings
- fantom autó - a car moving on the best time's path

I think thats all from the performance.

There's one more thing you could try the manual / automatic clutch.
It is on the Játék/Hang screen.

- Kuplung - auto clutch on/off (the clutch def.key is 'X' behaves like an analog device with a certain time to press, hold, and release ... like the normal clutch - extremely hard to use effectively from keyboard).

Phew, i made it.
If you have questions. Ask them.

I agree with all that WK says above.
I did find the set up a little difficult to use as I too am not familiar with Hungarian!
But here's a useful link: English/Hungarian Dictionary
Image
The physics do seem to be very realistic and it's great fun just driving around the course. I noticed some commentary from what I presume is the co-driver (in Hungarian of course) - and I suspect he is giving the driver some hints about directions. IMO I'd say this game would benefit greatly with a more sophisticated controller, rather than the keyboard (a wheel ideally).

Vid cards - hey! we all seem to be in the ATI club! I too have a Rage Fury 128. I recently purchased the latest drivers on cd from ATI ($10 shipping & handling fee). I did this 'cos I wanted the DVD software which is not available for d/l from the ATI site. I removed my previous ATI drivers as instructed in the installation guide, and installed the new drivers and software from the cd. Now here's a funny thing - when I play 4x4 Evo and choose D3D it tells me that my card is an ATI All In Wonder Pro! Huh?
Apart from that everything works fine - good framerates in both games, the DVD, cd video and cd audio playback all work great (I haven't tried the video editor yet).... but I'm waiting for the big crash nonetheless! Image
Oh, and another thing - open GL works great now, whereas before it was very glitchy.

Back to Screamer 4x4. I'm sure this will be a hit for folks who enjoy realistic sims. I would describe it as more like "orienteering on wheels" rather than a speed rally. I hope that by the time the English language demo comes out there will be an option to configure the controls to one's liking.

As Bruce Forsythe (English TV game host) would say "Good game, good game!" Image

H2O... you should try the Insane demo, there is a track called Algeria and a car called Sodar. Tho' the "dunes" are pretty extreme in the track, the Sodar is pretty near to a dune buggy... and the racing is er, insane but great fun!

As you can see, you can sustain some pretty serious damage!
