Real mode system memory allocation failed.

When trying to boot windows after editing config.sys

Add rem to the left all the lines in the config.sys, then remove them one by one to see what's causing the message. (geez man, you're having your problems lately).

Oh btw if i am getting on your nerves it's because i did something that i'm not very keen on YET. I don't regret it but it's just.... not what i expected.

Will come back later on with some results because i'm going to my brother for now.

Ah, Win 98. Reminds me so well about them DOS years because of all those command.com, autoexec.bat files

Having Win_me IS the problem......heh heh (I've never heard one good thing said about Milennium Edition over other OS's...ever...)

I have XP-pro and Win98SE running on my machines...if I ever replace 98, then it will be with a copy of Win2000-Pro.....that's probably Microsponge's best OS to date (XP-pro is the best home-use OS).

win98 right? Try changing the line to this.

device=c:\windows\ramdrive.sys 32767 /e

If it doesn't work, we'll use xmsdsk. To tell you the truth, I use xmsdsk but I thought using ms' version would be easier. Guess I was wrong.

Fila, if that doesn't work, then put rem to the left of that line in config.sys.

Then edit the autoexec.bat file so it looks like this.

@echo off
c:\xmsdsk 131072 /c2 /t /y
D: (you know, the letter of the ram disk - you may need to reboot to get it)
md temp

Now download this file xmsdsk.exe. The zip contains everything it was released with but all you need to do is copy xmsdsk.exe to C:\xmsdsk.exe. You can delete the rest.

I will be very surprised if that doesn't work.

Well, almost surprised since you admit you have mb problems to begin with

Lastly, you think DOS is bad, huh? Wait til you try linux. lolololol

edit 2. Uh, you did format before installing, right? Please don't tell me you kept installing on top of old installations.

No i wasn't referring to it as beeing bad. It's that it raised me memories from my first encounter with the computers with those huge pixelated games and when i just learned the commands by heart and i simply had no idea what i was doing just that i was doing something right.

And i am one step ahead of you regarding the Franck Ubert utility. Already downloaded it and started toying with it and just wanted to ask some advice on it

I deleted Windows and Program Files with the deltree command using the smartdrive ability before i installed.

If i was supposed to format too....... geeeeeeesh i hate this

But that's what it makes it so special.

*grabs wall and starts banging his head into it*

Well everything is honkey-dorey until i assign the PagingDrive.
You see the RAMdrive is set as G:
So i went into the System.ini and wrote PagingDrive=G:\
Now when i reboot, after the windows logo image dissapears it appears the autoexec.bat line that the ramdrive was created. Excellent so far, now it's the little temporarly screen with the blinking underline in the upper right corner. The phase just before the desktop is supposed to load. Well, the computer freezes at the underline. Although that line is still blinking the computer gets stuck there

I already have a thingie saying

Drive A is using MS-DOS compatibility file mode

in the system proparties>performance

Now my floppy is busted. I took out the cable that connected the floppy the the mobo but appereantly windows still thinks it's there (unless i try to access it). Is this normal or it's a problem? And can this have anything to do with the PagingDrive not working?

Fila, yer weird. It works perfectly on any computer I use. So anyway, just don't use that line. It's not the end of the world. But just for the fun of it, what happens if you turn off the swap file from the virtual memory settings? You can still use the ram disk for your browser files and as a holding place for anything you download. There's no waste with a ramdisk.

Drive a is supposed to be compatibility mode. It's a floppy.

Device manager, disable in this profile. Or better yet, in the bios, just turn it off.

just turn it off.

It already is turned off from the BIOS.

I take it you won't be surprised if i tell you that by disabling Virtual Memory doesn't seem to affect the system that much. At least i haven't got any malfunctions.
