Here's a really far flung idea. You know when you delete the item in device manager, then reboot, it tries to install the new hardware found, right? Well, what if you say "have disk" and you browse to the inf or ini file it's asking for. Okay, what is the name of that file? If you can get it, I wonder if a google search of the file name will turnip anything.

I have been doing a little googling and found a possible solution.

Do you have a DSL modem

I found one page that referenced the ATM controller as being caused by improperly installed drivers for a DSL modem.

http://www.ptsi.net/support/adslsupport.html

Update -- doing a little more looking it seems that nearly every time a "ATM controller" is mentioned it is a DSL modem of some kind.
Reality is for those that cant handle video games.

Yes I had Dsl. Now on Cable. If I delete it I will not be able
to remake it. Then I'd not be able to get back online.
So Ill just have to live with it as long as I can. Every thing
I need to go online is working. Cant do what I love, but Ill
get a new some dang day. Il live. lol

When you got rid of DSL did you pull the modem out of your PC, device manager still thinks its plugged in.

my 2 cents... i think the sudden startup problem is either a bad power supply or a bad motherboard. the newer motherboards always have power going to them. the power button only makes momentary contact to send the signal to the power supply to fire up. the motherboard and power supply work together on starting up the pc... if you have a spare power supply with the atx connector i would try that first.
