i think it might be a typ-o because there are a few other trucks on his page that are the same month and a day apart only they're listed as 1998.

99% of dates are done by pod file date, but in this case it was indeed a typo. I just checked and the month and day are correct but the year is in fact '98. Thanks for bringing it up.

I was 10 years old when it came out. I'm 20 now. Surprised my disc is still intact after all these years. Also it's scary I've been around for almost half of its tenure and have been able to help out a lot of people in the process.

Here is my history lesson hopefully tracks are allowed:

Those are NOT old... hell, we were well into 99' when viper (there were many 'viper's, but the one I'm talking about has vanished) made the first mtm2 tube frame and silently posted it on the Scrapyard. I was daydreaming in sophmore Algebra when I started thinking about Jim Klasnowzky? What was his last name? He had released a Dodge Ram truck with fender wells cut out, and oddly enough, filled.

I emailed both authors that night and asked for permission and began work on the first mtm2 tube frame truck, Ram Racing.

'Drag' tracks had been around before they became really popular but it seems when editors started using dome bins, oddly enough from mtm1, that's when things heated up.

Who remembers drags with 'crushable' cars? From the recent downloads I've been playing, seems to be a fad that has come and gone...

There's so much detail in today's trucks there's no way to compete anymore. The worst made replicas of today would've been the most downloaded and played back in '98-00'

Yep, with time comes technology and this game has seen plenty of programs come and go and sadly many authors as well.

I remember when i was first making trucks, all i could do was paint something and call it a job. Now days, you'll get smacked for that haha.

I remember seeing the first frame on the old BBS, and Alpine subsequently asking if he could have a jungle gym made next. The subsequent Fiberglass TC looked amazing at the time. Now, they'd be torn apart for inaccuracy.

With the better detail, though, there's come some major problems. My Whalers truck clocks in at 2000+ verts, which the game just can't handle. What's the point of a super accurate replica if you can't even drive it? I actually think we should be regressing the trucks a bit. I'd much rather have a truck with a less detailed frame, tonneau cover over the bed to hide the engine, with 3d shocks and headers, and a glassed-in cockpit with driver model for around 1000 verts. It's something I'm going to get around to one of these days, but I don't have the whole thing planned out yet. I gotta PM Phin to ask if he still has that screenshot of the tech demo a guy was using to try to pitch MTM3 to Microsoft...it's probably lost to the ages though. That's the inspiration for my idea.

As to the drag tracks with crushable cars...if you need more than 10 cars, you're kinda screwed on that lol.
