Rookie track : a track by a person who has never made a track before.

The idea here is to encourage everybody who has never made a track to try it. We expect nothing over and above traxx school - which will take the average person one night to finish. The standards are very relaxed so there's no need to be shy. Just about every track maker who's ever made a track has done traxx school. It's the place to begin.

Of course, our hope is that once you see how a track is made, you will continue to do more, even after the expo. But if you don't, that's okay too. The point is to try, have a bit of fun, share your effort with everybody, and to do it in a non-critical atmosphere where help and support are sought after reponses.

For this category, help, if you need it, will be provided, short of doing it for you. Re-uploads will be allowed, if you want to update your entry. And if you find that one night of work doesn't satisfy the track making instinct in you, then by all means move on to something more extended. It will be accepted in place of your traxx school effort.

The MTMG Track Downloads have three tracks marked as Traxx School. Be sure to check them out if you need ideas. If you take advantage of all the time available between now and the closing date, it's quite possible to create exceptional things.

A readme.txt file is optional.

If you think this describes you, then give it a whirl. We look forward to what you can do.

Any questions? Just ask.

> I would still be a rookie right?

Yes. But since you've made a couple tracks, even if you haven't released anything, I think you should look at a themed track. If it turns out to be too much, then you can always drop back, but why not give it a shot, eh? Don't forget, you have a lot of time. If you release the track you're currently working on, then you can get feedback on it and learn even more. I'm not trying to force anything but won't a rookie theme be just as satisfying as a first track release?

> You mean put it out even though it is unfinished?

No, I mean finish it and then move on to something new for the expo.

Siberia Creek would be another traxx school example... the start finish area is the traxx school oval i made, and from there i just made it up as i went... at the time i knew absolutly nothing about track building, binediting/painting, or any degree of texture editing.

SC...

...only took about two months to build.

...is the only track i used stock mtm textures on

...is being converted to evo2 by someone (can't remember who tho)

...was a rookie summer '99 contest track, but was judged as a pro track since half of it was made with traxx 1.4 (rookies were barred from using anything above 1.3)

When I first read "Traxx School" I thought.. ugh, why? But reading this made it quite clear. It's a great idea - the idea is to encourage everybody who has never made a track to try it.

To those who will be learning I suggest you follow Malibu350's example with Siberia Creek - don't stop after Traxx School lets out, just keep going, letting your imagination run wild.

I'm already 3/4 of a way done with a track.

I decided I should take a shot at this so that's what I've been working on. Only one problem (well actually 2).

I just realized I been making a MTM1 track. Now I haven't seen anywhere where it says it's from MTM2, but I thought I should tell you guys.

2nd Question....When ever I add models and then save the track, close the program and then load the track again, the models don't load....Any ideas?

Most mtm1 tracks work in mtm2 anyway so I see no major hang up here. Have you been aiming for mtm1?

Well, kinda. Are you getting errors? Or are they just not showing up? If you are using traxx, try this link.

http://mtm2.com/~mtmg/errors/lnth.html

I know in tracked2, you're prompted to save twice when doing models or terrain. Once when you exit that editing mode, and again when going back to the main menu. I always save both times. I wouldn't know for tracked1.

Yea that looks right...

I was getting an error when i loaded the track in traxx that the models could not be loaded....

I'll try that solution later.

I'll also try to grab some screens if you guys want of my new track

Alright that worked...

Only problem is, when I go to create the pod, I get an error that says "Bad Model Texture ART\TRPOLE.RAW"

It gives me the option to create the pod anyway, but when I do, I get an error saying "error writing pod" or something like that.

I'm using Traxx 1.4 and creating an MTM1 track

Any ideas?

Nevermind I figured it out...

Only problem I'm having now is with a blank model...

I want to designate it as a checkpoint because i have textured groundboxes as my checkpoint poles. Only problem is that the blank model is not see-through in the game. Any idea how to make it transparent?

Oh and I have another problem lol....How do I keep my models from being pushed around the map by the trucks? I've tried setting the mass to 99999 but they still can be moved...Any ideas?

I'm not sure about mtm1 but in mtm2 whatever a model is designated as a cp it will be rendered invisible in the game (object properties, type/checkpoint)... another option, and again I'm not certain if this'll work in mtm1 but you can use object boxes (purple boxes in traxx) as cp gates they will be invisible in the game and can be sized from within traxx to fit between any two markers... the only thing you need to remember if you use these is that they need to be facing north or they will not register a pass through.

LOL...

set the weight to zero, that will make them stay put... and if you want them to stay put and at the same time be able to drive through them, then set them to 'no collide' from the moldels properties box with zero weight... note if you do that for a tree or bush it'll need to be set to 'no collide facing'
