Communications gaps

Post by Alpine »

For those who do not know, I'll try to fill in some blanks.

I first jumped into MTM when my younger bro got the demo, and my first online experience was going to a zone older than dirt and time. The first addons were repaints, and tracks using stock everything. Oliver Pieper released BinEdit and things really got interesting.

My first editing experience was having bitmaps sent to me to repaint and then I had to send them back and wait for a release of a truck I'd painted. This was because not all PCs came with enough RAM to run TrackEd.

Because of this need for others to help me with editing, I started the Ground Zero team. ICQ was new and only had about 200k users. ICQ became our communications tool and soon GZ was the primary source of excitement for players who wanted something interesting to add to their game.

The communications was the key. When someone hits a snag and needs a fix, it must be done within minutes. Motivation comes and goes with creativity... ask any true artist. When I feel like making a truck and I get an error when creating a pod, that truck will sometimes never be finished because by the time I get a valid reply on a message board, I'll have lost interest, and lets not forget that all replies aren't guarenteed to fix a problem.

Anyway, I want someone to do what was done a long time ago anf it brought a following that was the basis for Ground Zero. I want EVERYONE to be on a list, which will display their name, their ICQ, MSN, URL, Yahoo and AIM. Lets quit doing sh*t the hard way! Lets get people together like it was during the rise of MTM. Lets build the opportunity for people to communicate!

It will NOT take away from message boards... trust me. This place will still be crazy with posts if not more so. Message boards will always remain the place to come see what is going on in editing. Posting here means hitting everyone at once, wheather they be online or not.

Phin, man of MTMG, this is your new project... I hope I see a new link to a page with players/editors info, GZ style. You may not have wanted the responsibility but you walked into it. Get it done.

Might be a few more clicks to you, but if people have been diligent about it then all that info should already be in their profiles on this very board.

Really, I'm not trying to hear all that... I dont want excuses or nobody saying 'all you have to do is' cuzz if that could get it done, I wouldn't be asking. Do it THIS way; do it MY way. I've done this before and I know what I'm talkign about. ALL editors on one list we can scroll thru. URLs linked, ICQ, MSN, AIM, Yahoo, email info all on the same page. If we are VERY lucky, we'll bring MTM out of the gutter and back onto the streets.

I'm not trying to say I'm the man, and I'm not trying to start people to arguing, or even discussing me and my status, or what I am capable of. The fact is the community lost guidance and someone needs to step in and take charge. And since none of you cowboys are up to rounding up what little stock we have left, then I guess I'll mount my horse and charge after them myself.

So I'll hunt them down and get them to post their info. This time, its not some little sign-up sheet for a message board... I mean come on. This is a message board. Putting contact info on here is like... *thinks about it* its pretty retarded. We dont put our phone numbers on envelopes when we mail them...

All peoples' contact info should be on one page. All names on message boards should be linked to that page... simple. Its just too bad someone didnt realize this earlier. If there is a downside to this method, it would have made sense when it was done the first time, when Ground Zero had over 100 members listed.

An old GZ list

this one simple idea actually started with a list of not very many people at all. But before long, I was updating this list almost daily. Eventually there were 30 ppl, then 60, and it rose to over a hundred once before we started removing inactive persons.
