3-way animated billboard

Post by ZOtm_BigDOGGe »

Have you ever seen those mechanical advertising boards at sporting events that rotate on occasion to show different ads?

With much effort, I was able to make one that can display 3 different billboard ads. The billboard was made in 4 sections that rotate separately. Each ad displays for several seconds before it rotates to the next one.

If you wish, feel free to place different advertisments on it other than the ones I used. I just made some simple, basic advertisments for the demo. permission is also granted to place it on any track model download sites.

----------------------------------

I also placed a sample of it on a small test track for viewing/inspection purposes. The billboard only displays properly on one side (as do the real ones).

It took me several hours to create, due to the difficultly of mapping it properly. I hope you find it useful.

Looks good, BigDogge. Have you ever checked out either of these?

You might find them interesting, if not some inspiration.

I've seen the scrolling sign on WAKE-UP before, but I was unaware of the sign roughly similar in function to mine made by Winterkill. Ah well....so much for original ideas [:P]

never noticed this one before...... [(-:]

I did notice that the rotating triangular panels on Wint's sign deform during rotation. I avoided that by including panel models that were only halfway rotated, thus retaining their original shape during the entire rotating process (DOGGe says as he picks on petty items to save face).... heh-heh.

Neat.

This ones alawys been on my mind for a while. A track prop thats like a Big TV. But not like any still picture showing TV, one that could folow a truck from the race cam. Maybe even perhaps it could be controled some how by the player. Also on top of that play like some sorta small entrance video with music.

A few more to with that...
Spot lights that would folow something in a specific area, maybe even switch color.
Lights that a player could control (this would get rid off "late go's" in online drag league's I think)

Well I am gona just quite down now, after thinking to my self it would cause lag...lots of lag...But anyways, theres my Ideas.

Cool, It's gonna be nice to see something new. I dont built tracks but i sure appreciate the cool things i see around when racing.

Excellent work BigDOGGe! Very well executed. (now see about fixin' the picture)

As for my boards, the SLO billboard in WakeUp was basically a re-make of the front side of the old MTMG one. I think animated models are still an untapped resource in our game, and man I've imagined lots of practical mechanisms... but I've lacked the ambition and raw talent to create them. What I can say is that the new BinEdit has blown open the doors for creativity, with the way face and vertex groups can be so freely manipulated. You, BigDOGGe, with your creative mind and raw talent, MUST continue in the field of animated track props. :)

As for "A track prop thats like a Big TV". One of the stock MTM1 arenas has big screens that show a realtime view of the trucks in action, functioning somewhat like rear view mirrors but with a race cam kind of view, if I remember correctly. This works only in MTM1 of course.

Picture fixed. The original was lost when the mtm2.com hard-drive died.

I made another 3-advertisment billboard that works differently, but is difficult to describe it's function. It kind of replicates a screen wipe effect.

You can find it and the one in the pic on the NIR track by NIR_N4SCharles.

I agree that animated track models are great. That's why I had so much fun making the 3 different animatd fans in zoon kitchen-2 (one was a Rep-fan/DOGGe collaboration). I also made some "swimming" fish models with moving tailfins for an aquarium track some time ago, but that project never was completed, I guess.

Sigh...If only animated models could be applied to trucks...You can only do so much with animated textures.
