I found this great site and thought you guys might be interested. Its a text based online racing game where you can buy cars (from what ive seen there must be hundreds) recruit and manage drivers and enter races. And this is all free. I found it quite tricky to use to start with but you soon get used to it. I would say its definitely worth a look.
