Possible loading delay fix!

Post by Mat-Allum »

Hi guys.

I've complained about this problem a lot and asked for possible fixes, always unsuccessfully. Considering all the time I spent asking other people, who would've thought *I*'d be the one to suggest the first fix?

The problem seems to be fairly common among mtm2ers using operating systems such as Windows XP. Basically, the game takes almost half a minute to switch between rendering modes or levels or something. (I'd say levels...?) It hangs for thirty seconds on the blank screen between clicking Go and the race actually starting to load, on the black-and-white truck picture when exiting a race or replay, etc.

And now... the fix. (Hopefully this will work for you!)

Right-click Monster.exe or the shortcut on your desktop and go to Properties. In the compatibility tab, set compatibility mode to Windows 95/98 - the platform that the game was intended for. Now check "Run in 256 colors" (the color mode the game is intended to run in). Leave the other check boxes blank, save for "Run in compatibility mode for...". Now try the game. If it still doesn't work, try doing this on a fresh installation of mtm2.

I found this fix a few weeks after my reformat. I'd been away from mtm2 for a while but decided to reinstall it, and thought that maybe a few settings changes before my first race might fix the annoying problem that turned me away from the game in the first place. It worked. Hope it can help one of you! :)

It's not the videos that does it. It's how Windows typically (well, newer Windows versions) change video modes in the midst of trying to automatically adjust to the video modes being asked for by the programs.

By having what video modes already specified to a certain extent greatly reduces what Windows automatically attempts to do.

Making those settings always helps eliminate (or reduce) that effect for me.

I to have been having this problem, with MTM1 it happens when you first startup the game aswell.
I tried your fix mat-allum, it doesn't work. And BTW, I'm on that CGN version of MTM2.

I have this problem on my Windows 95, but since when u only got 200 mhz, waiting is normal so I have never considered it a problem. Try MTM2 with only 32 megs of RAM, it takes FOREVER for it to get off the loading screen and actually into the game lol. Id say at least 3 minutes of black screen with just the music lol.

well back when I actually used that computer to play, it had two sticks of 32 meg ram, but for like 5 years prior 1 stick didn't work right, it took a few bootups to detect the correct RAM size, but one day it decided to stop working, leaving me with 32 megs of RAM, but I still wanted to play. After that I bought 2 128 sticks for it, talk about overkill :), ironically that max that board could support is 256 RAM, its like in 1997 they knew that machine would live to see the era of 128 chips :)

As mentioned in the first post, right-click mtm2, hit Properties, go to the Compatibility tab, and select "Run in 256 colors." Hit OK and try out the game.

Hope it'll help you!

As mentioned in the fifth post, that doesn't fix it for me.
