Opera browser

Posting this cuz i know Phin will be looking for a new webbrowser.

Got this installed and so far it's pretty decent. A heavy shock though, as expected, as i am very used to the Firefox interface. Will say more about it once i get more accustomed (and whether or not i get a BSOD).

One thing though that bothers me is the lack of the spellchecker, loved that feature in Firefox.

Meh, so far found two sites incompatible with opera.

shopto.net and emag.ro

While emag is understandable because it is romanian shopto is a rather large/known online store in the UK (well known to the UK).

odd to find a site incompatible with Opera, but Opera follows HTML Strict, I don't think it even recognizes transitional. I'd personally take Opera over firefox, just because it has more interface features and customizations, and is far less of a resource hog, (ive never used FF3).

But sorry, still sticking with Avant, but why is phin looking for a new browser, does he not use a paid version of netscape?

Yep, netscape has given up the browser business... not that I liked the direction they were going in anyway. That said, my v7.2 does 99% of what I need. It's only MS sites that really mess it up. I don't do flash, or google books, or youtube, and don't want to, so I should be good for a while... hopefully long enough for somebody to make a good browser.

You may be expecting too much from modern devlopers lol, didn't u see my google chrome review? lol

I don't think I fool myself... well, at least not too much. We have all this brilliant technology and not an ounce of common sense driving it. Google chrome will go the way of netscape if they don't pull up their socks, only they'll do it much quicker.

Is opera, or another, the answer? Only time will tell.

believe it or not K, some people hate firefox, some people tried it when it was new and it left a very bad taste in our mouths, some of us "know too much" and never want to use firefox.

While Netscape is still my all time fav, opera and chrome show promise as alternatives..

Opera recognizes old HTML.
Opera has spellcheck but not little red underlines unfortunately.
Opera is faster than firefox.
Opera has lots more features built in than firefox.
Zoom works in Opera (Text and Images are all scaled)

And other good things. That said, it's not as compatible as firefox and ie but mostly because webdevelopers don't test their sites on opera and cross-browser compatibility is hard enough with two main browsers even for simple sites. If you find a site that u need to open in firefox or IE just right click on the page and click "Open With > Firefox"

url aliasing? lol, well in firefox we have something called bookmarks.

and a search bar, so you don't have to go to google site everytime you want to search something

Oh and did I mention Adblock?, the best plugin ever made for a web browser?

DHL Romania website isn't compatible with Opera neither although the USA one is.

Neither is DHL UK compatible.

I have all that stuff without the need for plugins

but bookmarks are time consuming, and I dislike them, I can type 80 words per minute, but it takes me 10 seconds to search my menu for a bookmark.

example, to go to this website I type in "mtm2f".

Infact the only site I have bookmarked is webex.com and thats cause IE7 doesn't have url asliasing, and I have my bookmarks shared between browsers. And Webex doesn't work so well with tabbed browsers, works fine in IE however.
