MTM2 in the future?

I was in a chat last night (tonight) talking to a few people about MTM2 in the near future. I'm not trying to be Mr.Doom and Gloom but I was kinda curious if you think the new Operating Systems that Windows that will keep coming out in the near future, if maybe some in MTM2 Community (Circuiteers/Rumblers and Draggers, etc) might be phased out because of it? And if these new Op. Systems would be compatible with MTM2? Vista has sorta shown that somewhat. It could possibly phase people out of MTM2, and I was just curious if there's a way that could be fixed or something? Is Windows 7 compatible with MTM2?

IDK, I just found this an intriguing question to some.

Vista 32 bit is good, I had it before switching back. No problems at all, heck even Windows 7 beta worked in that sense. I'm sure we'll get through the operating system barriers.

operating systems wont be a issue its the fact that the limits of what can be done for the game are now being pushed too close to the limit. (more so for the dragging side then RnR)

Shouldn't be any real problems as far as OS goes, though Video Drivers could be a *beep* real soon, same with DX compatiblity, I see no reason to maintain DX4 as MS is doing now. ATM I cannot play mtm2 cause of bad video drivers and so far, nVidia refuses to admit it or fix it, I've updated drivers every single time, they are getting close though, I finally achieve over 10fps at point, unlike before where it was only measurable in seconds per frame.

I'm not really talking about tr?cks, I'm talking if some of these compenents of these operating systems that may phase out MTM2 because the game was made in like 1997 or whatever, lol. For example, 64 bit and 86 bit processor (I'm not that computer illiterate so correct me wrong on my knowledge), and other types of programs that may make MTM2 to old to even run on a very new computer. Some of the nVidia Graphics Cards have seemed to *beep* a couple people.

I have one machine here thats one of the latest and it works fine.

I think while compatibility mode works we are good for a number of years yet

A number of gamers keep the older machines for MTM anyway.

Was it a Vista made pc and you installed XP? That is the only explanation that I have.

i'm running a 64 bit Vista OS in hardware mode (imagine that), but i havn't had any issues what so ever yet, Windows 7 just fixes the bugs and whatnot of Vista, almost like siblings, but i do have to run in XP compatibility mode though.

Well, MTM2 works on the RC1 for Windows 7 (7100.0.090421-1700_x86)

there shouldn't be any problems with 32bit applications. The only time a 32bit application would be an issue is if it is handling memory addressing manually. And very few programs actually do that. Otherwise, the program asks the kernel for memory, the kernel gives it memory, thats the entire story. You can run 16 bit programs in a 32 bit OS, heck, you can run em in a 64 bit OS, so why can you not run a 32bit App in a 64bit OS.

I believe "sysedit" is actually a 16bit program in Windows. It still works in XP, even though it is kind of useless.

Thanks for the link.

Does this mean windows 7 is microsoft's patch for vista? I wonder how long it'll last - you know, before it's replaced by windows 8 or something. Either way, I think I'll wait for SP2 before delving into it. MS can't seem to get anything right prior to two service packs.

On the upside, several programs (ns and wp to name two) turned the corner at version 7. I wonder if this will be ms' lucky number.

Windows 8 I believe is predicted 2012.

Windows 7 is looking pretty good though. It really looks like the KDE desktop, but without the "smoothness" that KDE provides. It's a shame really.

I really wish game developers would switch to OpenGL, then we could start using linux to run our games. A linux distro specifically designed for games would be awesome. Imagine a more precise tick counter, proper RAM addressing. duel monitor support (DX11 is said to have duel monitor support), proper processor separation. The possibilities are endless, if you can optimize the kernel for gaming. Heck, have the system automatically unload all useless visual elements when running a full screen program. Basically drop to CLI before running the game to free up as much memory and CPU cycles as possible. Maybe halt all the uneeded daemons as well.

Absolutely.

A disto only for gaming? Kinda useless dont you think. If you brought a computer only for playing.. you're not really giving it a proper use... neither you're giving a proper use to your life, haha.

KDE has looked as it does now for a very long time, at least the last 6 years.

MS copied KDE. And Poorly at that.

And what would be wrong with a gaming oriented distro.
you don't need 10k gaming libraries for a word processing computer. Having a distro specifically providing these sorts of things would be a great advantage.

Actually KDE1 (copy of mac os/darwin) was released on 98, KD3 (copy of Luna) was released on april 2002 KDE4 (copy of Aero) was released on 2008

What about people that doesn't want to play all day, who uses a computer as a productive tool instead of just sitting all day until your ass gets flat? Even if you install such distro in other partition on a multiboot system it would be completely lame to switch from OS to another... you would have to reboot everytime you wanted to play a game. And virtualizing is not an option..
