Backdrops

Post by Hacman »

I'm having a slight problem with a backdrop that i am making. It is a city one but it is in the night. It loks fine with a city with ligts flashing on & off and animated so you can see the waves from the black water.I built it like OP's Dark star backdrop exactly just one problem. When i made the backdrop i could still see blue sky.Not from the top just from the sides of the backdrop.I think it has something to do with centering the models or something.Anyone know whats up i'm really stuck here

Sounds like the face type and magic number problem.

Select all faces
Groups>set group face type then select mtm1 transparent
Groups>set group magic number to -2147483648
Deslect all faces
Save as backdrop

There is a special backdrop section on the BinEdit Help section.

Could it be you have some true black in your textures that is being rendered as transparent? Test your textures... try a 'color replace' in your paint program on black or near black to see if the problem areas get filled in.

Oh, if there's a lot of black in the texture, and you can live without transparency, then try setting it to normal mtm texture type but still do the magic number trick. If that wont work, then try a color like midnight blue or something extremely dark but far from 0,0,0 The game will make color corrections for something really close - that could be the source of the trouble.
