Do you have a pirated copy of MTM2?

You haven't told us much. Are you talking mtm1 or mtm2? If you have the retail game, what error messages are you getting and when and under what circumstances are you getting them? What is the name of the patch file and where did you get it from?

ok...im talking about the mtm2 patch. i downloaded it from haywired.com today. i have the full german version of the game. the error message is "cannot find existing installation of microsoft monster truck madness 2. installation aborted". i get it after i have accepted the licence-things (sorry i dont know what its called in english). the name of the patchfile is mtm2pat.exe and its size is about 909 kb.

re: haywired.com

Okay, I don't think this is the problem but try downloading the patch from here:

re: german version

There have been several non-english mtmers so I don't think it's a problem, but the language version is something to keep in mind as a source of trouble.

re: message is "cannot find existing installation of microsoft monster truck madness 2. installation aborted".

Did you install the game to the default location? Does the patch allow you to browse to a file? I have no mtm entries in the windows registry. Do you? If yes, what are they and what are the chances of you editing them to point to the mtm folder?

Lastly, it shouldn't matter but try running the patch from the mtm folder. You never know, sometimes these things make a difference.

ive had this problem before. it isnt the language difference. something went wrong in the installation or your system reset the registry. over-install the game. it should work.

For MTM2, isn't the exe simply a self-extracting zip file, that runs an INF? I believe that you can patch the game just by opening it with winzip, and then extracting the files into the game's folder. I don't think this patch does an RTP-type update, so that should work for both MTM1 and 2.

Wow, you're right, mtm2pat.exe is self-extracting, and the .inf appears to copy a new .exe and .rtf to the game folder. Good info.
