500.27 max frames with some nvidia cards
some friends of mine are experiencing a cap on framerate at exactly 500.27 ..never goes above that ..not even 500.28 ...
everyone that I have talked to that is having this problem seems to be running an nvidia card of some kind ...they all have diff flavors of nvidia cards, operating systems , versions of dx installed , doesnt seem to matter what driver version, or if running off of a fresh reformat and reinstall of OS
...the only common denominator with this frames per second cap is that they all have an Nvidia video card ..some mx's ..some 4600's ....some have multiple computers, and one computer will do 1000fps , while the other one will cap at 500.27 .
.. anybody else experiencing this and know of a fix to unlock the cap ..

I can't get my geforce to go that high. Are you doing anything special to get those kinds of frame rates or do you think there's something up with my system that doesn't allow it to go as high as you're gretting. I can't investigate 500fps when I'm peaking at 150ish. :(
side note. The eye, as far as I understand it, can detect differences in higher frame rates. The 24fps threshold is the line at which the eye begins to give in to the optical illusion of motion created by a series of still images. The number 24 was settled upon as an optimum rate due to mechanical and economic considerations back in the day these things were being developed. But it is by no means a standard in terms of cognitive perception. This is one of the reasons why video tape went to 30fps. The economics and technology of video tape afforded a rise in frame rates so it was considered advantageous to increase the fps as it would raise image quality. There are many factors to this. In addition to fps, you have isa, f-stops and shutter speeds too. These can mean the difference between blurry images, and say seeing the rotation of the ball at a baseball game on televsion. Your tv may only show 30fps but the information being broadcast is based on much higher numbers - and is probably digital now too. The medium storing the information matters too, but since we're talking mtm it's less pertinent. So, in sum, higher frame rates do matter. Just how high and how much is debatable. I know that 100fps is better than 30. And I know my voodoo card at 300 was better then my geforce at half that. And lastly, and we've talked about this before, the monitor might refresh at, say, 85fps, but that means nothing if it has to wait around for the game to make up it's mind what it's going to send. This is why vertical sync usually results in degraded performance. I'm not trying to prove or disprove anything by all this. I just wanted to note that it doesn't always come down to the bio-limits of one's eyes, tho that too is a factor.

The difference is not to the eyes. I maybe wrong but even if you cant see it the computer does calculate it and may give you different resuslts depenting of what you're doing.
For exemple, you may get a bit faster lap time on a track if your computer dont see a small bump. To prove that, there are tracks where you clearly hit the ground sooner in software mode than you will with your card. The reverse is also true. i recall on another track i was unable to clear over a small mx bump in software mode (was always hiting it on the climb side witch broke my momentum) but on full graphic i was clearing it.
Again i'm no tweeks freak so it may be my imagination.

as far as being able to get more frames per second out of game is just a matter of expiramenting a bit ...lotta rumblers go for high framerate, but I am under the persuasion that high framerate isnt always your freind, in a rumble anyways on dial up ...i usually run around 500 frames per second , because I like my eye candy and when I setup for higher, I usually get lagged way worse and do the bulk of the flying during rumbles ...booooo
my old GF2 Ultra would do 1000.27 (which is max frames you can achieve on mtm2 game) ..and that was with nvida settings to max performance, vsync off, no aa or antisoptric filtering enabled, and using cab view in game with all all eyecandy off and view distance to 50% with no other cars running...and triple buffer
things to expirament with are trying different drivers for your video card and see what works best for you ....
..also make sure you system resources are up not only for better gaming performance , but for better performance all around out of your computer ...98se , Me, and XP users, should get familiar with msconfig ....if win2k , find a buddy with xp and copy their msconfig file onto floppy and then place in same directory into your computer ...to clean up you system tray of needless crap running in background ...if winXP user ...check out www.blkviper.com for other services you can shut down to free up more resources on comp...
..and back to my original topic [:-)]
..first of all , game limits framerate to 1000.27 (normally), but my friends are experiencing the limit lowered to 500.27 exactly 500frames per second under what normal cap is ....hmmmm
..and only seems to be with nvidia cards ...any thought suggestions on why this is?
