Boosting Detail for 2.1...

Post by Alpine »

This was a full size export, resized in PSP to fit a texture. Then it was imported for size matching, and the full size was reduced in Xara to texture size as close as I could ge it. I then exported the xara resize, mirrored it and compared it (right side) to the PSP resize at left. (The small image below is actual size.)

This just shows how one resize process causes noticeable quality loss. I can state from experience that a decent truck paint goes through many many changes during editing, even as much as being saved and re-opened after checking on the truck model.

I think its safe to say that I can get noticeable detail improvement on my more detailed paintschemes. This one I'm sure will outshine quite a few when its finished.

So here's what ZooN's 2.1 ride is looking like so far... The top is actual web graphic at 1:1 ratio, slapped onto a truck, which I think is also at 1:1, so none of that is resized. Its all viewed at 2:1 here. With that set as the idea, I began recreating everything from scratch. The wheelwells and window are in place temporarily for reference. In fact, everything on the bottom image will remain temporary until export, so I can alter everything, even the tranparency and drop shadow.

[note: the truck will be split to two seperate textures so the quality will be twice that of the image at top.]

Now I need builders.

I have yet to make a front end in Xara yet. No guesswork involved really - grab a couple pics, recreate from scratch. The quality will be top notch - thats MY part. I just dont want to slow down in painting cuzz I'm learning a lot and when I'm hot, I hate moving into raw/bin/pod and testing...

What I would rather do is make more trucks for 2.1 using website designs as paintjobs. ZooN's gonna have his own custom, as will DakotaSky... Who do u imagine would drive the MTMG truck? LOL

Anyway, I've offered a custom truck to those who are willing to help in the project, and that truck will be included in the install. Here's a great chance for you to get your foot in the door and you will have hands-on involvement with building your own custom truck, which means it will be taylor made to your specifications. That truck wont hit the floor until you give the Ok!

Another thing is wheels. I mentioned on the other board that there will be a selection of wheels to choose from!! If you are on the development team, you will have your own wheels made, and they will be selectable as the standard model for all trucks.

You would also have the go-ahead to release your truck as a single downloadable addon for use in the regular game. I know this may sound like 'Someone will take 2.1 apart and have them all downloadable.' but I can almost guarentee you that will take a LOT of work. The files going into this install will be 2.1 dependant, which is part of the anti-cheat defenses. The only other way to get ahold of the truck is during tests.

Alp, I'd be willing to help out just for the fun of it, a custom alpine paint job would be a big bonus but not necessary since I love the game enough to gladly work for free :o).
The reason I have not jumped at the chance to get involved in mtm 2.1 thus far is simply because my off line workload is just about all I can handle right now, very long days with just a couple hours of RnR when I get done. It took me a month to get that L&O truck finished up and I only logged about 6 hours on it.. A track project typically burns up 50+ hours time so that's out of the question at this point. Things will eventually lighten up around here freeing up some time to allow me to get more involved but for now I gotta take care of business since my kids insist on eating every day lol.

For now, keep up the great work man, your graphics are awesome as always.
