MTMG Monster Truck "CHESS RACE" Tournament!

Post by Mat-Allum »

After you guys voted as not liking my soccer tournament, someone suggested "bot" monster trucks, as game pieces. Then I thought of a chess game.

I know that chess can be difficult at times. But in this game, all the world's a mini chess board, and all the trucks merely pawns.

The chess board is the typical size, but there are eight pieces in all. Each of the six pawns (two colors; these are really trucks!) can move one space in any direction. (ONE pawn may move for each team's turn.) The two kings (which, if you look closely, are really "programmed" :)) can move any number of squares for each turn, in any direction.

To capture, simply bang into the truck to capture. If you are hit by another player, you must drive off the board immedately. To avoid getting bored while outside the game, I can set up obstacles to jump on. But please don't cheat and jump in again.

What do you think of this idea?

Yeah, I know the board looks wild. But it'll look better.

3 pawns and a king for each player. The king moves like a queen normally would. Hmmmm....

Perhaps you should try playing this concept with friends on a real chessboard, to see if it is workable at all. It sounds like you both would be down to one king and no pawns in no time.

P.S...."your" soccer idea was tried and discarded many years ago....

I think you should just make the track. If you wait for people to approve your ideas before you even make them, then you'll probably have a long wait. No matter what you do, somebody will find faults and reasons not to do it. When I get an idea, I just do it. If people like it, great. If they don't, that's great too. And what if in the end it turns out to be a bad idea? So what, right? You never know unless you try it. And who knows, maybe it'll turn out surprisingly well. But you'd never know it unless you try it.

I have some chess piece models lying around here. I'll see if they can convert to obj. If they're low enough verts, let's see what you can come up with.

The models could benefit from a few touch ups, but the verts are all there - and none too high either.

I've seen basketball done, and I've seen bowling....How do you suggest a pong game in MTM2 be played?

Well, now I have grass and a nice looking board. Oh, yeah...

And a rumble zone.

Professional games of chess are played with a limited time anyway.

Well, Take two trucks, set them in like a box so sorta like this
___________<-Wall
| |<-Move patren ect
| O<-Ball |
| <-Truck
| |
| |
------------------<-Wall
The trucks would only be able to move in forward and reverse so basicly taking the roll of the paddels.
The center would be made of re painted ice or something, so if a ball couldent be made the hockey puck would work.
And i guess beacuse theres realy no scoring system, you would keep score your self.
| ^
|<-Truck | O<-Ball
| V
|
Of course theres a huge snag here...I cant make maps :D [bump]
So...If any one eles thinks its possible...Give it a shot!

That still would leave a lot of unfixable problems...

1. How would you restrict the trucks to fore-aft motions only? There's no option to disable steering.

2. How would you keep the ball in motion?

3. There's still the problem that also applies to the soccer game, in that the "ball" or "puck" would not be in the same location on both player's online PC's...

Probably not. Basically, anything that requires two players and a ball, puck or whatever will not work in MTM2 online, since the ball's position is not sent to each other's PC online.

No offense intended, of course. I used to get all kinds of ideas that I discovered were unworkable once I learned truck-making and tried experimenting.

...and there's a few failed track experiments in my history as well, such as trying to make a collapsing bridge using the methods for making crushable car models. I may still find a way to make it work....someday.

Basketball (just shooting baskets actually) and bowling works because they are one player events.....A second person is not required, but if one is their, they have their own "ball".

A ramp is required to launch the basketball at the basket, and for the other, your truck serves as the bowling ball.

You can check out the last two in MTM2 by trying a track called "GPA MEGA FUN PARK FINAL"..... get it with the link below.
