I was wondering if any one knew of a program that would allow me to resize a existing partition from within windows xp?

i was hoping something along the lines of free cause it is like a 2 time use program that i am not paying $70

If you want to repartition without losing windows or your data, then that's probably about the best you're going to get. On the other hand, if you back up your files and are prepared to reinstall windows, then check the hdd manufacturer's website. Some of them are giving free utilities now. I used maxtor's and it was first rate.

Just to be perfectly clear, you have to make sure any utility you use works for the hard drive manufacturer, not just the computer maker.

The free world's clone of partition magic is called QTParted (from QT a GUI - graphical user interface language - and PARTition EDitor)

The QTParted I usually use is the one included with System Rescue CD. SysRecCD is a bootable linux CD for doing system maintenence. You just download an ISO disc image and burn it to a cd and then boot your computer off the CD. It's 123MB.

QTParted has a grapical user interface which makes it very simple to use.

You'll want to run certain disk scans from XP before doing the partion resizing. Look for a QTParted tutorial. shouldnt be too hard to find one.

I've used it quite a few times on lots of different systems with different drive setups and Ive never lost any data. Sometimes It didnt work because of defective disks but it just gave me polite error warnings and didnt do anything destructive.

However make sure you backup anything important to you.

Also if you want a more full featured bootable CD sized Linux that includes the newest QTParted then try Knoppix. http://www.knoppix.org/

ok thanks i tryed that partition magic 8 program and it failed and i lost every thing

i had downloaded over 3BG and just got my computer working again after 3 installs

i'm going to try that program before i put any thing else on here

ok i found the program going to download once i get my anti virus program working
