Trucks that know the way?

Post by Disposable »

I find with most tracks, the trucks are stupid.....The stock tracks that come with MTM2 have trucks that you can race against.
But even though there are many wonderful tracks to download that make the stock tracks look tame, there are very few where the trucks can be raced against, as they run into walls/buildings/cliff faces/ off road/ everywhere but keep to the track. And almost every time you end up racing against yourself or the clock!
Now I know that everyone accepts that the trucks are stupid, but why is it that some tracks have trucks that do race well and other tracks may as well have no trucks for all the good they are?

Tracks with fairly good truck racing that I have found are: Deja Vu/Deadmans Gulch/Barnyard 109/Rachels Park/Castle Rock too/Dog Country.

Anyone know of any more please?

Part of building a track is to "teach" the comp trucks to follow the course in a speedy manner by laying down a somewhat buggy system of directional/speed lines which can be a difficult task and one the majority of past track makers avoided altogether hence the bot trucks you see that run into walls or drive off cliffs.
Even the best laid bot courses are no match for the average racer once you've become familiar with a particular course so I don't know of any list of good bot bad bot tracks.

I spent time on each of my tracks trying to get the comp trucks to at least appear sober, but, you can only get them so good no matter how much time you spend on them. I even went so far as to teach the bots to cheat on one of my tracks (orient express (i think)) by taking a short cut that humans cannot, but even then it's not much of a challenge after a while.

Some of the best tracks ever made for the game are by Winterkill aka Wint, they not only look great the bots do well.

Thanks for the explanation (I have Orient Express and it is a good racer), I have downloaded the "Wint/Winterkill" tracks and will try them out! :D

PS: Tried them all out, and you are right! That is what I am looking for, you get a real sense of racing, and not just a time trial.
Thanks for these, they are great! :D

Still looking for others though?
