Manual Shifting

Post by Clegger »

Sorry if this has been asked before, but how do you get the truck to not accelerate on its own when you are shifting manually?

If you're using a keyboard you have to tap on the brakes to decelerate, full throttle is locked in until you do.

Thanks, but thats always been set at "None." Its just annoying, is all. I can get better lap times on both drag tracks, and rallys, but the truck seems to take off every now and again...

It happens with my Wheel as well.

I take it everything is calibrated properly so i don't know, does your wheel come with some software? Maybe there's something in there.

Have you looked around the software? Maybe there's some sort of throttle automation in the software.

Oh this is right up Cope's alley :D

For the record. I am using the same... or struggling to use it. After years of no force feedback this wheel is a shock to me.

Either way, i have no throttle assistance.

Hey Clegger, just so I understand, is your problem that when you let off the gas the truck continues to accelerate? I started to take some pics of my settings, but after re-reading your initial post I'm not sure I clearly understand the problem. Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but manual shifting in this game is nothing like real life manual shifting; there's no clutch, so in effect you are accelerating still as you shift.

When I get home tomorrow I'll post pictures of my setup. I'm not sure if the problem you're describing has anything to do with software configuration, but we'll figure it out. ;)

Its acting just like I was using the keyboard to drive, with a manual. When I push the gas, I have to tap the brake before it will quit accelerating. Only happens with I am using Manual shift mode.

Ah ok - can't say I've seen that one before. Just to confirm, do you have "combined" checked in the software setup? I don't think the problem is with the wheel, but one quick way to confirm it is to connect a different controller (joystick, gamepad or a diff wheel if you have one) and give it a go.

Can't think of much else right now. When I get home I'll play around with my wheel to see if I can come up with some ideas. Also, do you ever play online in Ren Games? If so, we run a few tests to see what we can figure out.

Lastly, your controller simply emulates the command keys on your keyboard. Try disconnecting your keyboard (if it's usb) and playing with the wheel. I have no idea what'll happen since I've never tried it lol . . . but it's all I can come up with for now.

The game runs fine with the keyboard disconnected, as I thought it might. In your case I'm hoping that disconnecting your keyboard will result in that acceleration characteristic going away, which would suggest that your keyboard is the problem. It's a heck of a longshot, but I've seen crazier things lol.

Disregard the combined axis question. If you didn't have it checked you wouldn't be able to accelerate/brake at all in the game.

Here are some screenshots of my setup:

(MTM) Game Options - Controller Options - Customize Controller

(Logitech Profiler) Force Feedback Settings - Pedal Axis Properties

Note that my FF settings are intentionally disabled so that my wheel is very loose in the game. From what I can tell it's not possible to adjust the settings to allow for only a slight resistance in the wheel, however, a racing buddy by the name of slopokeski says he has his Center Spring set at 116% and it works just fine lol. That's another issue, however. :)

In a discussion with slopokeski I found that we had similar issues. He mentioned a dxtweak, which at the time I hadn't heard of at the time, but he says he's had success with it. I'll be trying it for myself this week.
