I agree with Slayer's evaluation of the cause (although I don't know if I'd say MTM2 wasn't "designed" for high frame rates, as that makes it seem intentional, and I believe it's more of an accidental bug or oversight by TRI that they didn't recognise on the hardware at the time.)

Something in ...

So was it a fresh install of Windows - not recovered from the old drive or a backup? (You could be volunteering a bit more information here - you should try to be as descriptive as you can.)

I'm thinking you got a fresh install and are still running off the reference graphics drivers included ...

it DID work at one point. I think this was because the game was actually installed. It is not installed now, my entire MTM2 folder sits on my desktop. IT was installed, then my hard drive went out, the folder has been sitting on the desktop since then and thats when the issue came up.
Oh, you ...

Right now I'm running on Dx10, how do I switch it to Dx7?
You don't. You don't do anything of the sort.

If you have DX9/10, they include the functionality of all prior versions of DX. Games that use any prior version of DX (such as DX6 for MTM2) should just run. There are no settings to change ...

If you have vista you probably have Directx10 already installed, just run "dxdiag" and you will see.

It's imposible to play the game if you don't have DirectX.
Vista comes with DirectX 10 (period).

However, DirectX 10 is different from previous versions of DirectX in that it isn't backwards ...

This game was designed to run on I believe a 48k dial up (correct me if im wrong please).
Try 24kbps. Perhaps even less.

With regards to pods and lag, there's a bit of superstition around it since it's naturally hard to guage what will make the game run better. The only things that "should ...

Google's time capsule

As well as 2008 being MTM2's 10th birthday, it turns out Google is also 10 years old.

Anyone seen this? m
Basically, it's the oldest revision of the search engine they still have, dating back to January 2001.

Really trippy searching for stuff that didn't exist back then... for example ...

See this is what I love about you Phinny - you start off with what seems like a fairly innocuous question but then keep digging and digging with the result that it pushes me into learning new things that I didn't know about before

I can virtually guarantee you that ANY disc, whether stamped or ...

I typed a lot up last night, hoping that the thread wouldn't move too far from what I was trying to understand and address, but of course it has

the differences in test tools. Each one seems to be testing for different things, and a couple of them seem geared to making nero, for example, appear ...

I've never used any myself, but I've seen MemTest86 recommended first more than a few times, so I'd say that's a good one. The Microsoft one probably wouldn't hurt either.

On technical messageboards I've also heard of a program called Prime95 (actually a research tool) that is popular for stress ...
